Grace Cavalieri was Maryland’s tenth poet laureate (2018-2023). Her 2024 book, “Owning The Not So Distant World,” won the Blue Light Book Award, and “The Long Game: Poems Selected and New” was published in 2023. She founded and still produces “The Poet and the Poem” for public radio, now from the Library of Congress, which will celebrate 48 years on air in 2025. Cavalieri was formerly associate director for children’s programming for corporate PBS, and senior media officer for National Endowment for the Humanities. Among other awards, she holds the Allen Ginsberg Poetry Award and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting Silver Medal. She’s also an Academy of American Poets fellow. Cavalieri has written 26 books of poems and plays produced on American stages. Two hundred “The Poet and the Poem” podcasts were launched to the moon on NASA’s Lunar Codex in 2023.

Grace Cavalieri will be at the Toyota Narrative Stage as part of Citizen Poet: The Role of the Poet Laureate in Community. Widely and wildly acclaimed, the beloved Maryland Poet Laureate Grace Cavalieri and Salisbury’s Poet Laureate Nancy Mitchell will discuss how their service as poets laureate has enriched their lives and fostered connections in their diverse communities.
