The young musicians of AMP Studio – the Academy of Music Performance – have been playing music on stages all over the Shore for over 10 years. Gino Bailey, a concert venue sound engineer and musician, along with his wife, Susan, started the program in September 2012 with five students. The goal was to offer a place where kids could get together and play music as a full band. Over the past 10 years, they have expanded to offer year-round band programs, private lessons, multiple summer camps and music outreach programs to local organizations.

At AMP, musicians between the ages of 8-19 are grouped together to form a full rock band and have weekly rehearsals at the studio in Downtown Salisbury. With professional musicians for instructors and a top-notch sound and light system, these kids rock the stage. Students are focused on learning many genres of music plus performance skills, harmonies and musicianship.

AMP offers beginners a fun place to learn how to sing and play musical instruments. Then, staff coaches them on how to perform in front of a live audience. Students of all musical skill levels are welcome and will grow as they are challenged to reach new heights and expand their playing skills. AMP’s young musicians learn to work together and gain a sense of team and friendship; plus, they help each other grow creatively. They are boosting their confidence and learning to respect others and their opinions.

This nonprofit organization offers program scholarships and supplies an instrument loan program to provide a music experience for any aspiring young musician. AMP has also provided music outreach summer programs through the YMCA and Wicomico Day School and area summer camps.

AMP bands perform more than 25 shows per year and have rocked the stage at Salisbury Festival, Wicomico Relay for Life, Brew River, 3rd Friday and the New Year’s Eve SBY celebration in Downtown Salisbury, plus Springfest and Sunset Park Party Nights in Ocean City, Maryland. Several musicians were featured at the Freeman Arts Pavilion in Selbyville, Delaware, as part of their Locals Under the Lights Concert Series.

As long as there are young musicians, AMP Studio will continue to be the place where kids ROCK!
