As a Salisbury resident and homeowner since 2003, Dr. Ladd Colston reflects on what brought him, his wife, and family to Maryland’s Lower Eastern Shore and why he has stayed to enjoy its natural landscape and to support the cultural community in this region. Ladd initially came to “The Shore” to serve as the Associate Vice President for Commercialization and Outreach for the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES). While there he learned about the importance of agribusiness, cultural heritage, and philanthropy in developing positive university and community relations.

After leaving the university, he and his wife elected to stay and live a purpose-driven life here. His commitment to community service has included working on numerous local organizational committees and boards including the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce, the Wicomico Partnership for Families and Children, the Mid-Shore Family YMCA, the Optimist Club of Salisbury, the Lower Eastern Shore Heritage Council, the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Byway Committee, and the Somerset County Economic Development Commission.

As a local business owner, Ladd is CEO of Sustainable-Visions, LLC, a Maryland State Certified Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) providing Community Research and Development Services in Education and Health. Currently, he volunteers as the Content Developer and Host for the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce – Education Committee Network TV Show – “Education is Everybody’s Business”. This show is produced locally on Public Access Channel 14 (PAC-14) and is currently available globally on YouTube featuring topics promoting education and workforce development here on Maryland’s Lower Eastern Shore.

Ladd G. Colston will be at the Toyota Narrative Stage as part of Different Perspectives: Come Here/From Here. “Come Here” Ladd G. Colston will share his perspective of a fresh-eyed newcomer to the Eastern Shore of Maryland, and “From Here” Lexine Lowe will share her experiences growing up on the Eastern Shore and how it has radically changed since.
