Family Fun Awaits at the Maryland Folk Festival!

Generously supported by the Richard A. Henson Foundation
When you bring the whole family to the Maryland Folk Festival, you won’t have to look far for kid-approved fun! This year’s Family Area is bursting with hands-on activities, creative play spaces, and learning adventures for kids—and their grown-ups—to enjoy together. Best of all, every activity is FREE and open from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21 and Sunday, Sept. 22.
Whether your little ones are budding scientists, animal lovers, artists, or builders, there’s something here for everyone:
Fossil Fun
Travel back in time with the Delmarva Discovery Museum! Unearth prehistoric shark teeth, dig for ancient treasures, and create your own fossil rubbings to take home. It’s a hands-on adventure blending science and imagination.
Bubble Up!
Minds In Motion takes bubble-making to the next level! Mix your own solution, test how long your bubbles can last, and see who can make the biggest one. With giant blue building blocks for extra play, you’ll leave with your own bubbles—and serious bragging rights.
The Kindness Station: Words, Art, and Heart
Join KindSBY for two heart-warming activities. In “How Do You Spell KINDNESS?” jumbo Scrabble tiles form uplifting words like “love” and “peace,” while the Kindness Art project invites you to create and share your own masterpiece. Spread kindness—one word, one work of art at a time.
Animal Encounters
Get up close with ambassador animals from the Salisbury Zoo! Chat with zoo staff, learn fascinating facts, and meet creatures from around the world—without leaving the festival.
Face Painting
Transform into a butterfly, tiger, superhero, or anything you can imagine! Poppytail Art offers dazzling face-paint designs for free.
Splish Splash!
Cool off at the Unity Square Splash Pad! Bring a towel and water shoes for safe, slippery fun.
Poetry in Bloom
Let your words grow wild! Craft poems inspired by nature and watch your creativity blossom.
Block Party
Grab a seat at the LEGO table and start building—houses, rocket ships, animals, whatever you can dream up. The only limit is your imagination.
So mark your calendars, pack your sunscreen, and get ready to make some family memories at the Maryland Folk Festival’s Family Area. We can’t wait to see you there!
